Experts At Play

We often engage grown-ups in conversations about design proposals, but kids rarely get a seat at the table. That’s the case even when we’re designing playgrounds where they’re to be the primary users. A new playground at Carroll Park in Southwest Baltimore is in the early stages of planning, and Baltimore City Recreation & Parks had the good sense to look to the children for insights. Earlier this month, we facilitated an interactive design charrette with a kindergarten class from Southwest Baltimore Charter School and were awed at the students’ quick comprehension of the design process. A big thank-you to Miss S’s class for sharing your bold ideas and your colorful drawings. If many hands make light work, your vivid imaginations serve as weighty inspiration to our team.
