Cuttings from Winter Meadow

By Matt Johnson

Winter does not have to mean the end of great floral arrangements and you can still get mileage from your summer cutting garden. There are many great plants that can be used for seasonal arrangements that will persist long into the winter.

Cold season cuttings can be used to bring color, texture and cheering elements from the outdoors into the home during the darkest months of the year.  Your arrangements can be composed of fresh cuttings of evergreen foliage,  dormant branches with interesting structures or persistent berries, as well as herbaceous stems with dried flowers or seed heads. All parts of a plant can make valuable contributions. Explore the winter landscape outside, and you’ll note a great variety of forms and textures that can be capitalized in your own plant arrangements.
